Patterson-Woods Travels to Mexico | A Rundown of Our Week in Mexico City and Playa del Carmen

Patterson-Woods Principals, Greg Ellis, CCIM, and Joseph Latina, traveled to Mexico March 1-8 for a CORFAC International office and industrial tour of Mexico City and for the annual CORFAC Spring Conference located in Playa del Carmen.

The Mexico City tours were hosted by fellow CORFAC member firm, Citius Commercial, a full service firm with locations in Mexico City, Chihuahua, and San Pedro. The industrial tours included Amazon, Mercado Libre, and Puma warehouse located in the Cuautitlán Izcalli area of Mexico City, including CPA San Martin Obispo, one of the most in-demand and advanced infrastructure locations in Mexico City. The office tours took place in two of Mexico City's most prestigious office corridors and including buildings such as Torre Reforma, the second tallest skyscraper in Mexico City (808 ft. high); Torre Mayor, the building with the most seismic tolerance in the world (738 ft. high, fourth hightest building in the country); the MetLife building; the Mexican Stock Market building, Ernst & Young offices, P&G offices, Toshiba offices, and Nike offices.

"My main takeaway from the tours and information we gathered is we're at a tipping point for Mexico to become the predominant location choice for companies manufacturing goods destined for the North and South American markets," commented Ellis. "And our Mexico member firm, Citius Commercial, has the knowledge and market connections to provide exceptional service to any company looking to learn more and potentially locate there."

Following the tours in Mexico City, Ellis and Latina traveled to Playa del Carmen for CORFAC International's annual Spring conference. The four-day event included educational sessions focusing on the global real estate market, deal-making sessions, and networking opportunities with other member firms. Notable speakers included:

  • David O'Donnell, President and CEO of O'Donnell, a company who has developed and acquired approximately 11.3 million sq. ft. of industrial properties in 9 markets throughout Mexico, investing $750 million in joint ventures with Prudential and AIG.
  • Kenneth Smith, Partner of AGON Consulting, Mexico's Former Chief Negotiator for the modernization of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) that led to the signing of the USMCA.
  • Christian Carlsen, IKANO Industry, responsible for the international expansion of IKANO Industry, a division of the IKANO Group, which exclusively supplies mattresses and upholstered furniture for the IKEA retail network.
  • Constancio Villareal, CEO of Matroalianza Real Estate Group

In addition to the education sessions, CORFAC held its Officer Induction ceremony, where Latina was officially inducted as Vice President of CORFAC for 2020. He will become President in 2021.

CORFAC conferences take place twice and year and rotate locations around the United States and the world.
