William Joseph Minster passed away suddenly of natural causes at his home in his beloved Wilmington, DE, on April 13, 2023. William Joseph Minster was born on April 21, 1958, in Elkton, MD and was named after his paternal great-grandfather. Will was loved in his community as a champion of small business, a jeweler, a tireless advocate, and even the unofficial Mayor of Wilmington, Delaware. Will was a son, brother, husband, nephew, cousin, and beloved friend. He had many friends who brought the family joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Davis Minster, Marilyn Ridenour Minster Ostheimer; and his wife, Kelly Ranck Minster. Will is survived by his two sisters, Alice Minster Coday and Melissa Minster; his aunt, “Cindy” Ridenour Wright; and his best friend, Valerie Bush Huff. He is also survived by an aunt, uncle, and many cousins.

In 1963 Will was diagnosed with Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) disease, a genetic disease that can cause tumors (benign or malignant). Will and his sisters have contributed to cancer research for 30 years by participating in NIH studies. Like his advocacy to make Wilmington a better community for all, Will gave his heart and soul to research and his battle against cancer. Please consider donating to the VHL Family Alliance in Will’s name in place of flowers. Learn more at www.vhl.org.

A visitation will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 10 AM – 12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Will’s life at 12 Noon.
